Cayman Island Primary Schools, Cayman Islands In November of 2005, Leroy, Cobo and I had a chance to visit primary schools in the Cayman Islands. We really noticed how much all the kids knew about Canada and the world. Even when I told my story of a walk in the Canadian woods, they guessed every animal correctly including my secret surprise. I would like to tell you now but someday I could in front of your school telling the same story and I want it to be a surprise.
Now it took me awhile surfing on the internet and I did find that many of the schools have websites. On most of them there are pictures where you can see how much fun they have learning. On the websites you can see what they have been learning and what they will be learning as well. Not only that, many students get recognized for their efforts. On one site where you can link to 11 primary schools your parents and teachers can learn more about the education that is provided. I really liked the many graphics each of the teachers used on their homepages. Some even some cool animations like the butterfly flapping his wings on the Georgetown site. I won't tell you which teacher you'll have to look. And there is the awesome mask on another teacher's webpage, do you think you can find it? If you do, email me and I'll tell you if that is the one I was looking at. That site is www.italic.ky and there are many private schools sites you can visit as well. Here are some of the addresses.

The last site which is the First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman site which talks a little about their school. It is a great school and a beautiful building. We have pictures from that show that you will be able to see on our website.
One thing we learned about the kids in the Cayman is how much they love to hear stories and tell stories. At the Book Fair some of them eve dressed up to tell their story. Leroy and Cobo can't wait to go back and visit all his new friends and I am looking forward to visiting with everyone and telling them new stories and singing new songs. And if we missed your website from the Cayman, let us know and we'll put it on our website

Here at Down By The Docks we visit lots of school web pages and we do enjoy each one. At the same time it occurred to us that maybe we should tell you about the school most of the Down By The Docks kids go to.
Mamquam Elementary School has been in Squamish since the early 1960's and today many former students are watching their kids enjoy learning at the school. They have between 300-400 students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 and even have a French Immersion Program that starts in Grade 5. Guess what Shantelle, Jaimie, Dylan, Em, Jordan and Alex are all in the French Immersion program and having lots of fun with it.
The kids also get involved in school performances like choir and plays. Some are even on school sport teams. Some sports are Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and even Floor Hockey.
Mamquam's website tells you a lot about the school and you can even visit some classrooms. They have a cool Computer Lab where they all learn to use the many programs on the computers.
You can visit Mamquam's website at Mamquam School and get an idea what life is like for the Down By The Docks kids. Oh yes, we are not forgetting Vanessa, she goes to Stawamus Elementary School in Squamish and they have a fun site as well. Go and visit her school at Stawamus Elementary School

Down By The Docks has many friends around the world including New Zealand. We are planning to visit our friends someday but for now we enjoy visiting their schools on the Internet. One area our friends live is in Invercargill which is on South Island. We found three cool websites of Invercargill schools The first one we visited was Invercargill North School which is a really old school. It was built in 1878 which is a long time ago. They have about 340 students who go to the school and you can see some of them on the playground when you look at the pictures on the website. What is really cool is the Principal made a video that you can watch on the site. Where is the site? Go to www.invercargillnorth.school.nz and have claws of fun.
Next we stopped to visit Waverley Park School. They have some cool animations that are fun to watch. What is nice is you can visit the classrooms and compare what you are doing in your school with what they are doing. And like many other schools they have lots of sports which you can see by the many pictures they have posted on the site.
Check their site out at www.waverleypark.school and see how much is it at their school Our final stop in Invercargill was at Makarewa School which is almost as old as Invercargill North. What was really cool is the fishhook you first see when the website comes up. There are lots of pictures to see of the school including their own swimming pool! Not only that they have their own Tennis Court too. What I also liked about the site was the Art Exhibition where you see different artworks by the students of Makarewa. Check out their website at www.southland.school.nz ?????

Recently I went on the Internet to find some songs that are performed in different parts of the world. I also wanted to learn more about these places. Now I will tell you about some of the places I visited.
This week I want to introduce you to a school in Finland called Karamzin Primary School. The title on the page is Karamzinin Koulu and they are located on the Internet at http://www.edu.espoo.fi/ or use your search engines. One thing I found cool was the picture of the school with all the trees around it. Since I love snow, I enjoyed seeing the snow on the ground. There is another picture of kids playing Football (Soccer here in North America).
Karamzinin School teaches kids about the Enviroment and go on a lot of field trips and have a lot of Physical Education classes. They start school in the middle of August and go till Christmas break. Then they start again in January and go til the beginning of June. They also have a sports holiday in February. I haven't heard back from them to find out what the sports holiday is all about, if anyone sees this please let me know.
This was a nice page to visit and I learned a little bit about life in their part of the world. Someday I may actually get to visit there and I know it will be fun. Keep watching this page for more about my Internet Trip around the world. Talk to you soon.

Recently I had a chance to visit a school website from the little country of Malta. It is a fun website that even kids can enjoy. I'm sure when you visit you will see what I am tlaking about. First I should tell you where Malta is, if you find the country of Italy on amap of Europe. Then you go right to the bottom (South) and Malta is a small group of Islands just South of Italy. The capital city is Valletta and the school I visited is south of there in the village of Marsaxlokk. The name of the school is Guzeppina Deguarra Primary School and it is a white buliding with lots of gardens and big yards for the kids to play in. You can see pictures of the school and gardens on the site. Speaking of pictures, you can see lots of pictures on the site including class pictures of the kids. They have a great project right now called Flat Stanley and you can get involved with this. From what I understand, Flat Stanley is a cardboard who travels to other schools around the world and comes back to the school with pictures and notes attached to him. It is a real cool way to learn about our world. Check it out and maybe Flat Stanley can come and visit you! I hope he can visit me sometime as I have so many pictures of Down By The Docks travels across Canada! He has his own lugage and which was designed by one of the students. There are many other pages including games for kids, something for Moms and Dads. about the village and so on. This site was designed by one of the teachers with her class. I think it is a cool site and you can visit too at www.geocities.com/mirmt1/school.html and there is another more official school site at schoolnet.gov.mt/mxlokkprimaryc Have fun!!
